The Milk Memos
Thursday, March 1, 2007
What does a mom do when she's nursing and has to go back to work? If she works in a unsupportive breastfeeding environment, she'll probably fumble around and express milk during her lunch break in her car, or in the bathroom, or in a supply room. If she's working class, she'll probably cease nursing, if she started at all. And, if she works in an ideal, supportive environment, she'll more than likely express milk in a lactation room, and maybe even write a book about it. That's what moms did at IBM. Their mom-to-mom notes encouraging and supporting one other through motherhood, breastfeeding and working has been turned into a new book by Penguin, The Milk Memos: How Real Moms Learned to Mix Business with Babies-and How You Can, Too. If you are a breastfeeding, working mom who feels you don't have anyone to commiserate with, The Milk Memos: How Real Moms Learned to Mix Business with Babies-and How You Can, Too is a comforting way of reading tales of woe and authentic stories of triumph written by moms just like you.
